Abbotts Hill Elementary was recognized by the Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Program, in affiliation with the Georgia School Nutrition Association (GSNA), for Promoting a Healthy School Environment. Accepting the award for Abbotts Hill Elementary are: Dr. Roytunda Stabler, Principal, Mrs. Lisa Giles, PTA Healthy Habits Committee, Mrs. Dawn Martin, Cafeteria Manager. Also pictured from Fulton County School Nutrition are Danielle Freeman, Area Supervisor and Ruth Taylor, Supervisor Wellness & Menus. All award recipients this year were recognized at the GSNA 2011 National School Lunch Week Kick Off Luncheon which was held Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Macon Centreplex in Macon, Georgia.
In support of the National PTA's Nutrition and Wellness Platform, AHE PTA will strive to:
- Heighten faculty, parent and student awareness of the risks of poor nutrition and physical activity.
- Develop solid programs to help decrease our children's risks for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, depression, breast cancer and arthritis due to poor nutrition and physical activity.
- Decrease the risk of slower brain development and poor school performance through improved nutrition and physical activity.
- Increase our children's water intake.
- Decrease our children's junk food intake. Increase our children's amount and level of physical activity. Instill a sense of being healthy in our children.
