Employees of the Year Announced

On Thursday, January 19, a committee comprised of parents, business partners and staff members visited the classrooms of Amber Coxwell, Steve Jones, Barbara Simon and Gita Sinha. These 4 teachers received the highest number of votes from staff members who were asked to nominate their “Teacher of the Year.” Each year it is very difficult to select a winner because all of our teachers are GREAT! This year was no exception, since all inspire and educate our students in many ways. This year our Teacher of the Year is……… Steve Jones, 5th Grade Teacher. Congratulations Mr. Jones! Steve Jones was raised in West Virginia in a family filled with teachers. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1996 from Berea College. He worked in several corporations as an Audio/Visual technician, but when his daughter was born in 2000 he became a stay-at-home dad. In 2004, he began teaching 3 year olds at Alpharetta Christian Academy as a way to give his kids (now including a son) a great start on their education. While there he began to realize that he really enjoyed teaching, so in 2006 he enrolled in a Master of Arts in Teaching program through Brenau University in Gainesville, GA and earned his MAT in 2008. He taught the 4th-5th grades at ACA from 2006-2008, and joined Abbotts Hill in 2008. He has taught third and fifth grades while at AHES, and currently teaches fifth grade math/science. Steve is the coach/coordinator of AHES’ Odyssey of the Mind team, and is the Pack Committee Chair for Cub Scout Pack #808. Away from school, he enjoys spending time in the outdoors camping, fishing and beekeeping with his wife Erica, and their children Riley and Owen.

The Professional Employee of the Year was also named. This employee is nominated and voted on by staff members. The qualifications for being selected as Professional of the Year include going above and beyond the call of duty. Jill King, Data Clerk, is our Professional Employee of the Year! Jill King is a native Georgian and has lived here for most of her life. She has resided in Johns Creek since 1993 with her husband, Steve. She has 2 children, a 22 year old daughter who recently graduated from Georgia Tech and a 17 year old son who is a senior at Chattahoochee High School. Mrs. King has worked at Abbotts Hill since 2001. She began working as Front Office Secretary and currently serves as the school Data Clerk where she completes student registrations and maintains student data and reporting. She loves meeting new Abbotts Hill families. In her free time, Jill enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, and shopping
