Help for Houston Dollar Donation Drive!

Sponsored by Abbotts Hill Student Council

With the recent devastation in Texas due to Hurricane Harvey, Student Council wanted to find a way to help. Our former Fulton County Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Scott Muri, leads Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston as the Superintendent. Many in his school district are suffering. Abbotts Hill will be collecting donations that will go directly to the SBI School District for aide and recovery. Please help us support families who have lost so much by bringing in single dollar bills. We could raise over $700 if each student just brought $1! Our “Dollar Donation Drive” will take place from September 19 through September 29.  Thank you for your support.

Digital Citizenship

All Abbotts Hill Jaguars (K-5) have participated in Digital Citizenship Lessons in the Learning Commons and 4CIT Studio since returning to school in August.  The use of devices and online sites is a part of daily life now and it is critical to teach students how to be safe, responsible and wise users of technology tools, online resources, and websites.

There are wonderful resources for parents on the Common Sense Media website.  Please click the link below to learn more and stay tuned for information about parent meetings that are coming up this Fall to provide valuable information to help parents and families navigate through the digital world with their children!

Parent Volunteer Registration must be completed for all of our classroom volunteers

To keep in compliance with State Law and best practices, for the 2017-2018 school year, we will require that all persons interested in volunteering in the Fulton County School District to re-register/register (even if a person has completed an application in the past) by completing the new online volunteer registration/application process. It is very important that volunteers enter their full legal name as it appears on their government issued ID (please do not use nicknames or “goes by” names on the application). All applicants must wait 24 hours after applying for application processing and approval. We love our volunteers! Please take a minute to complete this mandatory registration.

A Message From Dr. Stabler

Abbotts Hill Families,

The beginning of this school year was very smooth and a great success. Most of our  families joined us at the Sneak a Peek and    met their children’s teachers and signed up     to participate in PTA. I would like to thank      our PTA for the warm welcome that they provided to our staff and thank the parent     and student volunteers who helped make the Sneak a Peek a success and helped stuff    Jaguar Folders. On Monday, the children came  to school with smiles on their faces and teaching and learning began the moment the bell rang at 7:40 am. Kudos to our parents for getting the children to school on time, to our teachers and staff for preparing a warm welcome, to our kids for bringing such joy to     a brand new school year and to the PTA volunteers who helped kindergartners at     lunch during the first week of school.

With a new school year comes some changes,    I am pleased to announce that we have some great additions to our school team. Our new team members were carefully selected based upon their prior work experience and expertise in their assigned positions. Each team player     is sharing their talents with our students and school community each day. Please welcome:

First Grade Teachers: Erika Bauer, Kristin Van Asch and Melissa Whitlock.; Third Grade Teacher: Taniya Wilder; Fourth Grade Teacher: Jennifer Nickerson; Fifth Grade Teacher: Meaghan Drumm; MI Teacher: Emilee   Tutterow; ESOL Teacher: Erika Eberhardt; IST: Kristy Kinney, Speech Therapist: Eilish Noone; Instructional Assistant: Caroline Liebert and Cafeteria Manager: Laurie Bottini. We are     very fortunate to have each member on our team.

 Dr. Stabler.

Our new school year has started off sensationally!! The children seemed to have fallen right back into the routine without  missing a beat!

During the first few weeks of school, all  students will be assessed in the areas of reading, language arts, writing, and math.      We do these assessments to ensure mastery      of skills. Mastery of skills is necessary in       order for students to transfer their learning      to new and different situations. This process enables us to determine if certain skills need      to be reviewed before introducing new  concepts. We need to make sure your child’s academic foundation is solid before      continuing to build on it.

Results of these assessments will be discussed with your child’s classroom teacher during conference time in September and October. Please remember to sign-up for a conference time during Curriculum Night this week.

If you are interested in knowing the     skills your child will be learning this      year, please go to the Fulton County   home    page, click on Students and  Parents and then Resources. There are links to the GADOE and the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) for all subjects (click on GPS Curriculum).

Here’s to a GREAT learning year at    Abbotts Hill!
