Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year here at AES! I am humbled and honored to be able to serve our school as principal. This is my first year as principal, however, I have served the AES community for the past 2 1/2 years as the Assistant Principal. Moving into this role, I can ensure each of you that I will continue to support AES's legacy of meeting the needs of our diverse learners in order to achieve excellence and success!
For those who may be new to Alpharetta, you have found yourself as part of our outstanding school! AES is a community school that serves a myriad of diverse learners in a variety of settings. We also are extremely connected to our families and community. These connections enable us to achieve our mission of ensuring our students achieve excellence and success here and in all their future endeavors.
We have a dedicated and talented staff who serve our 560+ students in grades K through 5. Within these classrooms, we implement the Georgia Standards of Excellence with fidelity to ensure our students are reaching their full potential. We also serve our students utilizing a variety of other models that include, self-contained special education, Early Intervention, English as a Second Language, and Talented and Gifted. These instructional approaches support a history of academic excellence and growth. Our emphasis this year will remain on meeting our students where they are, as well as providing engaging and relevant learning opportunities in order to ensure each student achieves their personal best.
At Alpharetta, we implement a balanced literacy model for reading. This model incorporates both modeling and shared reading practices which provides instructional examples of excellence. This type of instruction enables small grouping opportunities which meet students at their individualized level allowing them to receive tailored instruction.
For math, we implement guided math with an emphasis on moving students from concrete representations to an understanding of abstract concepts. In order to ensure our parents understand and are familiar with these models, our CST, Ms. Cheryl Lico and our Instructional Coach, Ms. LaTosha Gray will host Parent Universities around what this model looks like and ways to provide support at home.
I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge our remarkable parent involvement. From PTO events, to volunteering, to just supporting our parents, our PTO is the BEST around! All the hard work would be lost without them. There are so many ways to get involved here at AES. These include but are not limited to, room parent, mystery reader, media center volunteer, PTO volunteer, Watch Dog Dads and many more! There are many ways to become an active participant in your child's education and here at AES, we encourage all families to do so! Joining our PTO is an excellent first step in that journey!
Serving this school and community is truly a passion of mine. I am so incredibly humbled and honored to step into this role and will support each and every family with their child's school career. Please never hesitate to reach out if you need anything. I can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
