         SMALL GROUP COUNSELING

Small group counseling is offered on various topics to enhance coping strategies and promote

problem solving. Below is a description of our small group services.

Social Interaction: The goal of the social interaction group is to assist

students with developing communication skills that will afford them an

opportunity to properly respond to conflict. Individuals in the group learn

what positive relationships look like and how to maintain them.

Grief: Grief counseling becomes necessary when a person is so disabled by their grief, overwhelmed by

loss to the extent that their normal coping processes are disabled or shut down.  Grief counseling

facilitates: expression of emotion and thought about the loss, including sadness, anxiety, anger,

loneliness, guilt, relief, isolation, confusion, or numbness.  The goal of the grief counseling group is to

help students think creatively about the challenges that follow loss, and provide them with strategies of

how to cope with concurrent changes in their lives.

Self-Esteem: How we derive our feelings of self-esteem and feelings of value is a complex process. It's

quite possible that every life event we experienced and everything ever said to us, all contribute to

our feelings of self-worth.  The goal of the self-esteem group is to investigate how life events may have

impacted our students' sense self-worth.  The will learn how to restore and rebuild their self-esteem.
