Dear Cogburn Woods Families:
It is with great pleasure and honor that I communicate with you, as this is my first summer letter as your principal. Since the start of my principalship in January, I have been absolutely thrilled to see the excitement for learning in your students, the support of the parent community and the tireless work and dedication of the teachers and staff here at CWES! I am amazed at the quality of excellence our school exemplifies every day!
Sending some great news to our community….. Congratulations to us:
- Cogburn Woods' overall performance on Milestones is higher than 93% of the schools in the state and is higher that the Fulton County average for the 2015 school year.
- Cogburn Woods' academic growth is higher than 89.4% of the schools in the state (CCRPI) for the school year 2015, with gains from 2014 where our growth was 85.9%.
- We received recognition form the Governor's Office of Student Achievement for having a High Performing School and received a beautiful banner. The banner will be proudly displayed in our lobby and outside of our school.
Our staff is anxiously waiting for students to come back to school on August 8, 2016. Before then, we will be hosting an Open House on Friday, August 5, from 8:00-10:00 am. Because we are limited in parking, we ask if your last name begins with A-L visit from 8:00-9:00 and if your last name begins with M-Z visit from 9:00-10:00. Please know you may attend any time, but parking issues might be lessened if you adhere to this suggestion.
The purpose for OPEN House is for students to visit their assigned classrooms and meet their teacher(s). Teachers will not be reviewing curriculum and will not be available for individual parent conferences at this time. If you need to share specific information, please contact the teacher through email and they will set up a time to meet with you once school starts. Open House is also a time for you to set up cafeteria accounts, purchases spirit wear, learn about after school activities, get your carpool stickers, pick up School Supply Kits (if ordered last year) and sign up to volunteer.
As we look to the future school year, I want to encourage everyone to be involved in our school, your child's classroom and become a member of PTO. With your support, CWES will continue to grow and become the best school Fulton County has to offer our children.
Please remember that teacher assignments are tentative based on our county's ten-day count. Our staff allotments are based on enrollment numbers on the tenth day; therefore, our staff could either increase or decrease and student's classroom assignments could change.
Please mark your calendars for our Curriculum Nights, these will be held on August 23 (K), August 24 (2nd and 4th), August 25 (3rd and 5th). More information will be shared at a later date.
Remember, school starts on AUGUST 8. Students must be in their assigned classrooms on each morning by 7:40. We will begin dismissal at 2:20 in the afternoon.
See you soon and enjoy the rest of your summer.

Lisa M. Garosi
