Dolvin SGC Candidate Statements

Shelley Noles:

My name is Shelley Noles and teaching is my passion and not just my job. I have been teaching in public school systems for 9 years. I lived in Central Asia before for 2 ½ years where I taught English as second language in a variety of settings. I have been at Dolvin Elementary for over a year now and have been a part of an incredible staff who works very hard at meeting the needs of the students so that they can be vital future leaders in their communities. It would be an honor to have a chance to serve on this school governance team to help further the education for our students here at Dolvin. I believe that I have the passion and dedication to help collaborate on how we can work together in giving the students at Dolvin Elementary the best education. C.S. Lewis once said, "The task of the modern educator is not to cut down the jungles, but to irrigate deserts." Children's lives matter.

Bruce Landeck:

Dear Dolvin families and friends, It's been an exciting past two years of growth at Dolvin with the implementation of innovative programs, such as the Discovery Lab, and we're just beginning to pick up speed. Looking ahead, we are planning to bring flexible furniture to the classrooms in the upcoming school year. With two children entering the 4th grade, I am running for re-election for one more term on the Dolvin School Governance Council. In addition the initiatives mentioned above, another project that I am especially invested in is securing a sister school for Dolvin that is located in Japan. We are currently working with the city of Fukuoka and the Chihaya-nishi Elementary School. Once completed, we then hope to also find a sister school in Australia, possibly in collaboration with Autry Mill Middle. Please support my bid to help continue to make positive changes for our children and see these and other on-going initiatives through to completion.

Zheng (Jane) Li:

I am a health scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. After graduating from college in China, I came to the U.S. to pursuit advanced education at Mississippi State University and Georgia Institute of Technology. I have two children at Dolvin Elementary School. I, like all parents, care deeply about education and I think school is an important factor in children's growth. That is why I try as much as I can to be involved in school activities, even though it is often difficult to balance working full-time, volunteering at school, and engaging in non-profit organizations. Since Dolvin transitioned to the charter system a few years ago, I have been learning the changes from the new system, including the Student Governance Council (SGC). The SGC plays a leadership role in the management of the school and is tasked with several major responsibilities, such as strategic planning, budget recommendation, and resource allocation. I believe my experience at work on developing strategic plan, managing project budgets and resources, evaluating programs, etc., could contribute to the missions and responsibilities of the SGC. In addition, Dolvin students have diverse cultural heritages and Dolvin treasures the richness brought by the diversity. I could bring the perspectives from a minority parent to the SGC. Therefore, I am interested in serving on the SGC to help guide the school's development and operation, which ultimately benefit all children in the school
