The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW.  The more you LEARN, the more places you'll GO!               -Dr. Seuss

Literacy is the foundation to success. To be prepared for school, young children need a strong foundation of early literacy skills.  These skills are required before your child starts to read or write on his/her own. Studies have shown that children who master literacy skills go on to have greater academic success. So let's hit the pavement running.

De-coding skills

These are the skills that allow a child to make sense of what's on the page. De-coding skills include:

Print knowledge – The ability to identify letters, words and symbols on a page and to understand how print works – for example, understanding that print is read from left to right and that letters combine to make words.
