Learning Objectives

5th Grade Studies World War II

Ms. Dantuono and Ms. Lumpkin’s 5th graders began their study of World War II with  visit by Retired Chief Judge of the Georgia Court of Appeals and World War II hero, Judge Braswell Deen, who came to Heards Ferry to give a personal oral history of his time as a Marine fighting in the pacific. He was a part of the invasion of Peleliu, and later won the Purple Heart in the invasion of Okinawa. The students had lots of questions about what it was like to really be there. It was exciting to have a first hand account.
