HPES is adopting a new school-wide approach to creating a positive and safe climate in which students can learn and grow.  Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) is a process for creating a safer and more effective school by structuring the learning environment to support the academic and social success of all students.  PBIS is a framework of discipline that uses positive reinforcement and education to encourage our students to adopt social and personal behaviors which ultimately lead to a successful, productive life. The aim is simple- to build effective environments in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, media center, bathrooms, and play areas. Teaching and learning occurs everywhere, and we take the initiative to encourage desired behaviors.

The process supports the adoption and long-term implementation of efficient and effective discipline throughout the school environment. A school wide expectation matrix lists student and teacher expectations in all areas of the school.  Student will be made aware of the desired expectations. A copy of the matrix is available in every classroom and the link is available on this page.

How can you help at home?
