Welcome to the Hillside Media Center!!  I am very excited to have your children visiting me on a monthly basis.  In my role as Media Educational Technology Instructor (METI), your child and I spend time discussing the different types of reading (fiction, non-fiction, auto biography and much more), how to be a strong researcher and an ethical user of information.
A little bit about myself, this will be my 24th year of teaching, I have been at Hillside since the doors opened in 2001.  I received my Bachelors in Special Education from University of Florida and my Masters in Library Media Technology from Georgia State University.  All 3 of my daughters have attended Hillside.  My favorite part of being the METI is working with EVERY student and working on WDOG (Hillside's Internal TV Station).

Here is general information about our Media Center, but if you have additional questions, please email me, Kathleen Simon at simonk@fultonschools.org.

We look forward to working with you  and your child,

Ms. Simon

What can I find in the Media Center?

We have a large collection of books from easy picture books to fiction and non-fiction and a growing bilingual collection, which are written in both English and Spanish. In addition, we have Professional Resource Collection and a Parent Resource Collection.

All books and videos have been chosen based upon the Fulton County Curriculum as well as suggestions from teachers, parents and students.

Finally, we have a large number of video and audio books, which are utilized by the teachers in their classroom listening centers.

How often can my child check out books?

Students may check out books every two weeks when they visit the media center.  If a student is ready to check out another book between visits, they may ask permission to visit.  Students may also visit the Media Center in the mornings after they check in with their Homeroom Teacher.

How many items can my student and parents check out and for how long?

All items are check out for a two week period.  If a student has and overdue item(s), they will not be allowed to check out any new item(s) until the existing item(s) are returned.

Kindergarten/1st Grade                        1 item

2nd – 5th Grade                                   2 items

Parents                                               5 items
