Meet Your School Counselor
Hi! My name is Kendra Bettis. I have always had a love of talking, listening, and helping others. This started in Elementary School when I would voluntarily become friends with the new students in my classroom. I knew immediately that helping others was a passion for me. After High School, I went to Western Carolina University where I received my Bachelor's in Elementary Education. After teaching 1st grade one year, I went back to school at Mercer University where I received my Master's in School Counseling. While starting my first year of counseling, I continued my education and received my Education Specialist in Professional School Counseling from the University of Georgia.
This is my second year as the school counselor at LFES. I love the relationships that have been built between the community, parents, staff, and students. It feels like one big family! As a school counselor, I work with all students. I instruct counseling lessons for all classrooms K-5. We cover topics such as kindness/friendships, bullying, careers, mindfulness, and transitioning to middle school (just to name a few). I also conduct small groups that I call 'lunch bunch' where I work with students covering topics that are focused toward their needs. This includes a girls group enhancing social and emotional development, Yoga for children, as well as other small groups based on needs throughout each grade. I meet with students individually and value building rapport with each student that walks in my office. My goal is to help students break social, emotional, and academic barriers, so that each of them may 'become productive citizens who are actively engaged, goal- oriented learners'.
When I am not at school, my husband and I enjoy keeping up with our 2 year old, Leo and our dog Bella.
