School Governance Council News:
Lake Forest Elementary will be electing new representatives to serve on the School Governance Council. There is one parent/guardian position and one teacher position open for election this spring. Our School Governance Council has a leadership role in the governance of the school. The Council works with the principal on the long-term vision and strategy for the school. They are responsible for approving the school's strategic plan and budget recommendations, as well as design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement and meet the unique needs of our school community. This past year, our Council worked diligently to create our Strategic Plan for the next three years, supported the IB PYP Application process, requested and was granted four professional days for our staff for the IB PYP Launch. The Council also requested and was granted Seed Funds to pay for these professional learning days, part of an IB PYP Coordinator, and for a 1.5 Spanish teachers.
Elections for the parent/guardian and teacher position on the School Governance Council will be held May 5th – 7th. Candidates interested in running for an elected position on the Council must complete a candidate declaration form and submit to the district office by April 28th!
Candidate forms may be submitted electronically (click appropriate link below, complete form and click "submit") or by mail (get a copy of the form from the school's front office and follow mailing instructions on the back of the form). IMPORTANT Information for ALL Lake Forest Volunteers!!!
You’ve all probably seen communication regarding our need to have all school volunteers take the Child Abuse Reporting training at the school. Thankfully, the process for doing this has become a little bit easier. It is no longer necessary for parents to do the training in the school building. The link below will direct volunteers to a video of the training that can be viewed at home (or other non-school location). After viewing the video, there is a certificate that can be printed. This will verify that the parent/volunteer has completed the training. The parent/volunteer should bring this certificate to the school prior to volunteering.
In order to volunteer, each parent will need to complete the Online Child Abuse Reporting Protocol Training and Background Check.
The video is about 10-12 minutes long, and it will need to be completed each school year.
Any volunteers that do not have internet or printer access can use computers at the school. Just let us know that it’s needed so we can arrange a time.
For questions, please call Beda Roberts, our Social Worker.
