As part of the comprehensive and developmental guidance program, students at Mimosa Elementary School have the opportunity to participate in small group counseling with the school counselors.
WHAT? Children who are experiencing similar needs meet together with the counselor to work on areas of concern through discussion and planned activities. Topics offered correspond to grade levels and student needs. Sample group topics include managing anxiety, family changes, building self-esteem, friendship problem-solving, resilience, and social skills.
WHY? These groups offer students opportunities to increase self-awareness; to improve academic success; and to improve problem-solving skills while building a positive self-concept and working with their peers in a safe environment.
WHEN? Small groups will meet once a week for 30 minutes for about 8 weeks during the school day.
WHO? Students can be referred for small groups by their teachers, parents, and/or administrators. To participate, parent/guardians need to complete a permission form.
If you and your student(s) are interested in participating in a small group or would like more information, please contact the school counselors at (770) 552-4540.
