Dear New Prospect Community,
Welcome to the 2016 - 17 school year!
Thanks to SPLOST, we continue have many improvements to share with our panthers! The building looks amazing with fresh paint in all rooms and hallways and our custodial team has worked tirelessly this summer to ensure we are squeaky clean prior to your return!
We have an exciting year ahead of us! Our School Governance Council is excited to see the initiatives embedded in our Strategic Plan continue with robust implementation. The plan will continue to guide our work for the next two years. The plan is available on our school website: http://school.fultonschools.org/es/newprospect/Pages/default.aspx
Our PTA has also been hard at work this summer. Please stop by and visit their table in the cafeteria at Sneak Peek to join PTA, check out our new spirit wear, and consider numerous volunteer options. Transportation information will also be readily available. Afterschool program information will be available in the gym. Class lists will be posted on both sets of cafeteria windows. Please know that we believe your involvement in our school is without a doubt, one of our most valuable assets. Thank you for your dedication to our school community.
Our staff has been working hard this summer too! We have both existing and new staff participating in numerous professional development opportunities this summer. We are so appreciative of their devotion to continually improving practice to provide the best learning experiences for our students. Some exciting initiatives that will be implemented this year include Reading Workshop (we rolled out Writers' Workshop last year) and Project Based Learning (PBL). Our staff attended a three-day PBL workshop this summer and will continue their learning with the BUCK Institute throughout this school year. They will also have the benefit of high quality professional development training sessions this year to support the success of Readers' Workshop implementation.
Additionally, through collaboration with our amazing PTA, Panther Pete's Science Lab will now be staffed by our STEM teacher – Mrs. Brandy Davis. Mrs. Davis is a highly qualified educator who holds special endorsements in Science, Math, Technology, and Gifted education. We are delighted to add her expertise to our team! The STEM lab will be a class that our students attend weekly. If you would like to be involved in our STEM lab, PTA will have volunteer opportunities available at Open House.
A few important reminders:
OPEN HOUSE will be August 5, 2016. M-Z 8:00 – 9:30; A – L 10:00 - 11:30
The FIRST day of school is Monday, August 8, 2016. Students will begin arriving at 7:10. The tardy bell rings at 7:40. Dismissal begins at 2:20 and generally is completed by 2:40. The first week or so dismissal may run a little late as we work on training everyone correctly. If your child is a bus rider, please plan on arriving 5 minutes early both a.m. and p.m. If your child is a car rider or walker, please plan on having them arrive no later than 7:30. Our students shine when they have adequate time to prepare to begin their day.
A gentle reminder - Please plan on waiting until the 3rd week of school to join us during lunch. We spend the first 2 weeks establishing new routines and making new friends.
Calling all volunteers... For the safety of our students, each school year all volunteers must be processed through RAPTOR, before they can volunteer in our schools. It generally takes 48 hours for the process to be completed. For your planning purposes... FULL STUDENT RELEASE DAY DATES for 2016-17: 9/2, 11/7, 1/17, 3/31 The local YMCA will provide a day camp option. Finally, please know that we are humbled by your trust that we will provide the best possible learning experience for your child. At New Prospect, every decision, every day, is based on what we believe is best for our students. Additionally, we value your opinion, actively want your feedback, and consider our relationship a critical partnership with a common goal - the benefit of our students. We maintain an open door policy (literally – both of my office doors are propped open), and believe that together we can ensure that New Prospect is the best learning environment for all of our students.
Thank you, in advance, for ALL that you do!
2016 - 17 will be a great year for all of our Panthers!
Your Proudest Panther,
