School Governance Council Elections

Parent Candidate Needed

It is time for the election of new members to the School Governance Councils at Cohort 2 schools. Each Cohort 2 School Governance Council (SGC) has one parent/guardian position open for election. Parents or guardians of students who will be attending a Cohort 2 school during both the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years are eligible to run for the parent/guardian position on the SGC.

School Governance Councils (SGC) play a critical role in the success of the school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Specifically, SGCs have the following powers:

  • Approve the school strategic plan and updates
  • Manage the Request for Flexibility process
  • Manage Seed Fund requests
  • Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations
  • Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy
  • Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance

Current SGCs have been an invaluable resource. They have proposed new and creative approaches to meet the needs of students at their schools and have been instrumental in securing approximately $8.7 million of Seed Fund money, over the last two years, to support those new approaches.

If you are interested in running for a position on the SGC, please click on the link below to complete and submit a Parent/Guardian Candidate Declaration Form by 5:00 pm on April 28, 2015.

We are very excited about the work and value-add of our SGCs. We hope that you will consider running for a position and voting in the SGC elections in May. In the meantime, to get more information about the charter system or SGC elections visit the district charter system website at http://www.fultonschools.org/en/about/charter.
