We are so proud and so honored to announce that Erin Collins was named as the NELC Professional of the Year!  We are so fortunate to have someone like Ms. Collins on our team to love and support our children and families!  Thank you so much Ms. Collins for all that you do!

Welcome Justin Elanjian, returning parent representative, Rajeev Gupta, newly elected parent representative, and Julie Duhe, newly elected teacher representative, to our School Governance Council. A special thank you to all of our parents and teachers who took the time and effort to run for a position on our council.  We look forward to working with all of our candidates in some capacity.

We encourage everyone to visit our School Governance Council (SGC) website, which can be accessed by clicking here or via our school website (click here) under the 'ABOUT' drop-down menu. Our next SGC meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9 at 7:15 a.m.

As a school, we are in the process of reviewing our implementation of the Leader in Me program and other opportunities that are available to support our students' growth in the area of social and emotional learning.  This brief survey will help guide us from a parent's perspective on what skills and/or strategies our students need to be successful in today's society.  Thank you so much for your feedback as we look at ways to best support all children! Please click here to access the link. The link will close March 22.

We need help from our 2nd and 4th grade students to design our 2019-2020 student agenda covers.  Students who are interested in submitting a design should place their entry in the envelope in their homeroom teacher's classroom by Thursday, March 28.  All entries will be submitted to a PTO committee who will pick the top six covers. The 2nd and 4th grade students will then have their chance to vote on their favorite design.  The 2nd grade winning design will be the cover for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade agendas!  The 4th grade winning design will be the cover for the 4th and 5th grade agendas!  Use the Shakerag Sharks school wide expectations... "Leadership, Kindness and Respect" in your masterpiece.  We will NOT be able to use any cover that mentions the 7-Habits due to copyright. Good luck to all! The PTO is excited to see what you come up with!

boxtops.pngIf you have any Box Tops for Education, there is still time to turn them in!  The last day to submit Box Tops is Thursday, March 28.  The PTO is sponsoring an end of year snow cone party for the class that collects the most in each grade level. Keep helping your class earn more points!

Students will be participating in Artist Day on Friday, March 29!  This school-wide event celebrates the work of great local artists and different international cultures! On this day, if students would like to show their international pride, they are more than welcome to come to school dressed to represent their culture. Please keep in mind that they will be participating in a variety of activities from dancing and outdoor play to art. Attire should not restrict or hinder participation. We are so very excited about this day! Click here to read about some of the amazing artists the students will be visiting.

This is our 2nd installment of our Milestones Practice Challenge for 3rd-5th grade students and parents! This week we are looking at the Math section (click here for 3rd, here for 4th, here for 5th). Additionally, all students can take a sample test (this is different from the above tests) as these are not grade specific. Click here, select Test Practice, EOG Online Tools Training, EOG Test Practice, Standard Online Tools and login with the information provided.

Last summer we were supposed to receive new playgrounds, however the project had to be delayed.  They are ready to move forward and would like to begin demolition and installation April 1.  Over Spring Break, construction teams will be on campus to fence off "work areas" and begin demolition of the old playgrounds and installation of the new ones.  Exits will still be available at the back of the building with access to the fields via the sidewalks.  Recess will be held on the field following Spring Break through the end of the school year to allow for install and time for the new grass to root.  It will be super enticing to play on the new playgrounds, or run on the new grass.  We are asking that everyone stay off the equipment and grass to give it time to root, so that it can grow to be healthy and green.  We truly appreciate everyone's help with this so our new playground areas will be beautiful and ready to go in August.

Shakerag Volunteer Registrationvolunteer.jpg

To keep in compliance with State Law and best practices, for the 2018-2019 school year, we will require that all persons interested in volunteering in the Fulton County School District to re-register/register (even if a person has completed an application in the past) by completing the new online volunteer registration/application process. The registration process can be found on the FCS District Website under Community/Partners & Volunteers or Click Here. Applicants should be prepared to spend about 10-15 minutes for the training and application process.  In accordance with State Law, all volunteers must be current with the Child Abuse Reporting Protocol Training before being allowed to volunteer in our schools.  It is very important that volunteers enter their full legal name as it appears on their government issued ID (please do not use nicknames or "goes by" names on the application).  All applicants must wait 24 hours after applying for application processing and approval.
