Hello Summit Hill Families!
I hope you all have had a fantastic first week of school. I am beyond excited about the 2017-2018 school year. I would like to welcome back all of our returning families, as well as extend a warm welcome to those families that are new to Summit Hill. We are so glad you are here.
I am so proud of the students and teachers at SHE during the 2016-17 school year. I am excited to share the great gains in achievement our students made. Families, students, teachers and our community will be proud to see that all of our work and effort is paying off. Take a look at our GMAS highlights.
- 11% increase in Proficient & Distinguished Students in 4th Grade ELA
- 10% increase in Proficient & Distinguished Students in 5th Grade Math
- 18% increase in Proficient & Distinguished Students in 5th Grade Science
- 19% increase in Proficient & Distinguished Students in 5th Grade Social Studies
- Overall increases in passage rates for 4th Grade ELA, 4th Grade Math
This week I have been working hard to connect with students and families. I am eager to learn names while connecting families and siblings. I look forward to greeting each and every one of you on curriculum night. For the 2017-18 school year, curriculum night will begin at 6:00 pm with a grade level presentation. Each grade level is prepared to share curriculum expectations as a team in an assigned location. Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to go to the individual classrooms following the presentation.
During the 2017-18 school year, we will continue to provide engaging instruction for each of our students. Our teachers will be receiving additional training on higher order thinking skills, balanced literacy, writer's workshop, and the leader in me throughout the school year. We were awarded three additional teacher professional development days which will be student holidays. These days will NOT be on the Fulton County School Calendar as they are specific to S.H.E. Please mark your calendars for the following days that S.H.E students will not be in school: September 1, October 5, and March 8 due to teacher trainings.
At the heart of our school is our amazing staff. They are full of spirit and pride and are committed to all things SHE. We are also blessed to have top notch students and a tremendous amount of parental and community support. There is no better place to be.
I look forward to getting to know each of you throughout the school year. It's going to be a GREAT one!
