Beka Sexton.jpg Beka Sexton - sextonr@fultonschools.org - http://misssextonsweetapple.weebly.com/

I grew up in Dover, New Hampshire and then attended Husson College located in Bangor, Maine. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, with a focus in English. I enjoyed playing basketball for the college and also being a member of the education club. Seeing as I was born in Cleveland, I am a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan! My family back home even named our dog "Buckeye!"

I have always been involved with children one way or another. I am one of six children, and have played on many different athletic teams from a very young age. Basketball has always been my passion, playing and coaching. Teaching younger children the game of basketball has always been such a rewarding experience for me. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to coach a YBOA girls team and a Roswell Rec team. I am also really looking forward to being the Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Coach at Johns Creek
high school again this year!

A graduate of Choctaw County High School in Butler, Alabama, I attended Jackson State University as a Math/Pre-engineering student before deciding to follow my heart and become an educator.  I graduated from State University of New York with a Bachelor's Degree in Education, and recently earned a Master's degree in Education from Georgia State University.

During my 20 year teaching career, I have taught sixth grade in Orange County, North Carolina, Reading Recovery in Durham, North Carolina, and fifth grade at Dolvin Elementary here in Fulton County.  I am thrilled to be in my sixth year at Sweet Apple.

I am super excited to be teaching fifth grade at Sweet Apple Elementary.  Although this is my second year at SAE, it's my 20th year teaching.  I have taught 6th grade in PA for 1 year, 1st/2nd grade in MA for 6 years, 1st/ 4th/5th grade in Cobb County for 11 years, and 1 year here at SAE. I received my Bachelor's from Brandeis University in Massachusetts with a degree in History and a minor in Education. Then I got my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Massachusetts.

My husband Chris works across the street at Sweet Life Chiropractic.   We also have a 5-year-old son named Lincoln, who is full of joy, energy, and excitement.  He rarely has a bad day as he is always happy!  We are all thrilled that he is in kindergarten at SAE this year. We also have a dog named Fenway, whom we rescued from Atlanta Humane Society.  She is so sweet and loving, and Lincoln and Fenway are best friends!

Some of my hobbies are: traveling, running, hiking, reading, organizing, and doing craft.

I L-O-V-E teaching 5th Grade! This will be my 12th year teaching, but my FIRST year at Sweet Apple Elementary! I previously taught 5th grade at Shakerag in Johns Creek. I am really excited to get to know the amazing students and families of the Sweet Apple community!

I enjoy transforming my classroom into a community of leaders and friends. My goal is to guide and encourage my students to become independent, successful, life-long learners.

When I'm not at school, I love spending time with my husband, our daughter, Olivia, and dog, Marley, as well as our family and friends! You can also find me watching Braves baseball and cheering on my Auburn Tigers!
