  • Big Night for Centennial Boys Lacrosse!

    The Boys Lacrosse team beat Harrison in the State Semi-Finals last night 13-11 to move on to the State Championship. Top performers were Zach Levy (4 goals, 1 assist) and Nate Solomon (2 goals, 3 assists). Alex Prescott and Brendan Spence scored in the 4th quarter to preserve the win for the Knights.

    The State Championship will be AT CENTENNIAL on Saturday night at 7:30. Please come out and support the Boys team as they look to win the school’s first Lacrosse State Championship. Check out the website for a game recap.

    Senior Alec Mazzuckelli Wins N. Fulton PTSA Award

    Alec Mazzuckelli (c/o 2013) is the winner of the North Fulton PTSA Scholarship Award, which is the top award the PTSA can bestow. Mazzuckelli is also Centennial's 2013 valedictorian and has been active in both academics and many extracurriculars during his time at CHS. Congratulations Alec!

     Centennial End of course Testing

    April 29th-May 9th: EOCTs began on April 29th and will continue through May 9th. Please check with your teachers to make sure that you know your testing date and location.

    Centennial Fundraiser Gets national Attention

    The Huffington Post has written an article about CHS English teacher Scott Kent's fundraising efforts to re-design the traditional classroom.

    Daniel Vahab, a blogger for the Huffington Post, writes: 

    "Have you ever considered the fact that your classroom setup was largely the same from when you first entered a classroom as a youngster all the way through college? A bunch of rectangular desks all facing a bigger desk in the front, the teacher's desk, with white or chalk boards behind it. That's the question at the heart of a new Indiegogo crowd-funding project that aims to modernize the classroom from its out-of-touch 18th-century layout."

    varsity lady Knights lacrosse Clinch Region Championship!

    Congratulations to the Varsity Lady Knights on their 20-11 win over Chattahoochee! The Lady Knights have gone undefeated in their regular season and lead the region in wins. Way to go Lady Knights!

     

    CHS Lacrosse Player Zach Levy wins legacy lacrosse leadership award

     Levy was recently chosen as the winner of the prestigious Legacy Lacrosse Leadership Award.   This award is bestowed upon the player that most personifies the 3 pillars of the Legacy Lacrosse Cup - Camaraderie, Competitiveness and Character as recognized by their coaches and teammates.      Summer School 2013 Information

    This summer, students will have multiple options for gaining or recovering credit, including face-to-face classes, Fulton Virtual School classes, and Georgia Virtual School classes.  Registration is online, and it is ongoing through May 24.  Summer School will take place from June 3-July 12.  The cost is $225 per half credit.  For full details and registration, please visit http://tinyurl.com/fultonsummer.  A quick reference flyer is available by clicking here.

    Congratulations to Ms. Crumbley!

       Centennial students, faculty, and staff were notified today that Ms. Kibbey Crumbley, who has served as Centennial's interim principal since January, has been selected as the official principal of Centennial High School. Area Superintendent Dr. Will Rumbaugh's letter details Ms. Crumbley's previous experience in Education and her passion for Centennial. We all congratulate her and welcome her to Centennial permanently! In her own words, our best days are ahead!

    Centennial Congratulates new inductees into the student leadership john's creek program

    Six students were inducted into the prestigious Student Leadership Johns Creek (SLJC) program on April 18th: Katherine Geraimenko, Adrian Hoefer, Justin Htay, Neil Jacob, Jenna LaCates, and Colton Mack. SLJC junior students Millie Bhatia, Jesse Couch, Juan Fonseca, and Emma Smith showed their support of the new SLJC class at an induction ceremony at Emory Johns Creek Hospital. SLJC students will attend leadership seminars, meet with influential members of the community, and create an innovative school and community project. Congratulations to these students for being accepted into SLJC! Their leadership skills will surely have a great impact on Centennial and the broader community.

    Centennial Chorus Spirit Night

     Come support the CHS Chorus at Moe's on Holcomb Bridge next Tuesday, April 16th from 5-7 pm. 10% of all sales will go to CHS Chorus, so bring your friends and family and make it a Moe's night!

    German Students Excel at the Foreign Language Association of Georgia's speaking competition!

     Students were interviewed in German on a variety of topics. All four students received superior and excellent markings. Congratulations to these students for their exemplary world language skills!

    Divers had a great showing at the State Dive Meet last month

    In the boys' competition, James Verch, a 1st year diver, finished 21st. Chase Barron made the Top Five with a 4th place finish. On the girls' side, Jamie Anderson placed 28th, Katherine Tuggle placed 22nd, Allison Eames placed 21st, and Kristen Drexinger made the Top Ten with a 10th place finish. Centennial has more divers than any other Fulton County High School and they represented us well at the State Dive Meet. Congratulations to all of the divers!

     

    Model UN Takes Top Honors in NYC

     

    On Friday, March 8, 21 of our students went to New York City to compete against over 3,000 students from around the world at the National High School Model United Nations Conference. For the second consecutive year, Centennial earned the conference’s top award, the Award of Distinction. Although the conference does not award individual awards, seven of our students were asked to speak in front of the overall conference. Those students were Nate Bramel, Isabel Carvallo, Anna Squires, Monica Bhatia, Nikki Frieman, Brooke Gillman, and Chris Robb. Dr. Medwed and Mr. Hoge sponsor this group.

    Knights Cheerleading Mini-Camp Registration now available

    The annual cheers mini-camp for ages 4-6th grade is scheduled for July 29-Aug. 2. Registration forms can be found HERE.

    CHS Cluster School Northwood ES announces important Spring Dates

    March 20:  Kindergarten round up 9:00 – 10:15. Meet PTA, Admin, receive enrollment information, tour the school and visit classrooms.

    April 24: Open house –8:00-9:00: meet PTA, Admin, receive enrollment information and tour the school

    Centennial's Got Skills

    Several SkillsUSA members competed on February 1 in Atlanta at the Region 3 Competition in Quiz Bowl, CPR/First Aid, Job interview, and ran and coordinated the Prepared Speech Competition.  Congratulations to Garrett Ely, Carson Miller, Michael Sartin, Kelly Stainback, and James Verch for taking the Championship in QuizBowl and bringing home Gold Medals, and to Boyd Sutton for bringing home Silver in CPR.  They will advance to the State Competitions March 21-23 where they will compete for the right to go to Nationals in Kansas City this summer.

    Congratulations to Regional Science and Technology Fair Participants

    Seven student projects were presented at the Fulton County Regional Science and Engineering Fair:
    1. Joey Saurini (chemistry)
    2. Kevin Linnane (chemistry)
    3. Beatriz Diaz (physics and astronomy)
    4. Trisha Dalapati (energy and transportation)
    5. Ingrid Cai and Roxanne Farhan (physics and astronomy)
    6. Charlotte McDonnold (chemistry)

    Biatriz Diaz’s project and Ingrid Cai and Roxanne Farhan’s project were selected to move on and compete in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair.

    Trisha Dalapati was awarded the top project in the regional science fair which not only allows her to compete in the Georgia Fair, but also qualifies her for the International Science and Engineering Fair being held in Phoenix this year.

    Centennial competed against over 3,000 students from around the world this past weekend at the Harvard Model United Nations Conference. Our delegation won the top award for small delegation! Each of the students represented Centennial beautifully.  In addition to this prestigious award, 6 of the 10 students won individual awards:

    Knights Win Video Challenge

    Congratulations to Nico Alcantara, Paul Elliot and Ryan Mitchell who won third place in the 2013 Road to Safety Competition. The program is a video contest challenging students from local Fulton County schools to create and submit up to a 2 minute video which sends a clear message to other students about the distractions and dangers new and inexperienced drivers face. Their winning video can be viewed here.
