AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC is the next course after successful completion of Accelerated Pre-Calculus Honors. Teachers of current Accelerated Pre-Calculus Honors will make the recommendation as to which AP Calculus course is the correct placement for individual students. Students taking AP Calculus AB or BC may also take AP Statistics. Underclassmen who have successfully completed Pre-Calculus Honors and who have been recommended by their current teacher may take AP Calculus AB.
Both Calculus classes are rigorous and are taught at a college level as expected by the College Board. Students will have daily assignments and daily attendance is necessary for success in the course. Upon successful completion of the AP Exam, students may receive college credit depending on their chosen college guidelines. AP Calculus AB is a two semester course, which is the equivalent of a Calculus 1 course in college. AP Calculus BC is a two semester course, which is the equivalent of Calculus 1 and Calculus 2 in college. Semester 1 of BC is the equivalent of the entire year of AB.
Underclassmen who have successfully completed AP Calculus BC may apply to Georgia Tech to take the GT Distance Calculus course at Chattahoochee the following year. The GT course is the equivalent of a Calculus 2 and Calculus 3 course in college. Underclassmen who have successfully completed AP Calculus AB may take second semester of AP Calculus BC the following year.
