An AP English Literature and Composition course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature (fiction). Through the close examination of selected texts including poetry and prose, students will deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. As they read, students will consider a work's structure, style and themes, as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone.
It is the assumption that students who take this course plan to take the AP Exam at its end. Therefore, a majority of this course is designed to prepare you for the AP Exam. If this is not your desire, you might want to consider an alternate course.
