Independence High School Receives SHAPE Grant.

Independence High School has received a $5,000 SHAPE (Society of Health and Physical Educators) Grant provided through the Georgia Department of Public Health. The funds from the grant will be used to enhance the school's physical activity and nutrition efforts. The SHAPE Grant allows IHS to offer Physical Fitness programs before and after school for students and staff, free of charge. The programs will include weight training, interval training, brisk walking/running and Zumba classes.  The nutrition portion will begin with the creation of both indoor and outdoor fruit and vegetable gardens.  What is grown will be prepared and offered to students and staff as healthy options during lunch. Plans are also underway to conduct nutrition seminars for students, parents and staff.  We will use the SHAPE website to post recipes, health information and program updates.
