2018-2019 Course Registration
Course registration for the 2018-2019 school year is underway! Milton High School teachers will begin making their course recommendations for your students' core classes for next year starting Tuesday, January 16. Thursday, February 1students will be given the first verification form for you to view these recommendations for next school year. The verification will show the core classes picked by your students' current teachers. The first verification form may not include your students' elective courses. You will find instructions to make changes on the verification form. Please continue referencing the Eagle Update, Milton website and the Milton Announcements for further information about registration for next school year. Thank you for your efforts in making this a successful registration.
New Social Studies Electives offered in 2018-2019! Two exciting new electives will be available for students next year.
Personal Finance is a semester long, project-based course that will help students learn how to best manage their own finances. Real world topics will include college and career options, income, money management, saving and investing, spending and credit, debit and credit accounts, consumer protection and identity theft, insurance and taxes. Students will design personal budgets and investment portfolios and evaluate different ways to manage money. Students will acquire knowledge through their own investigations as well as from guest speakers who are experts in their field. This class is open to juniors and seniors and does not require any pre-requisites. Students should see their social studies teacher to register or may include the course on their elective registration form.
Social Studies will also be offering a semester long course in Local History. This project based course will introduce students to the history of where they live and go to school. We will look at the history of the City of Milton, Old Milton County, Alpharetta, and Milton High School. As MHS approaches its 100th anniversary, we will devote much of our time investigating the beginnings of our school history and trace the changes the school has experienced over time, including the student body, teams and organizations, location, and the significance it plays in the local community. We will investigate our history using primary documents and artifacts from the school and county's archives, the Alpharetta and Old Milton County Historical Society, and school alumni and former faculty and staff to paint a picture of our history. We will hear from guest speakers, interview local citizens, and learn how to record oral histories. Students will also help us start working on a plan for commemorating and celebrating Milton High's 100th anniversary in 2021! We will not just study history, we will learn how to be historians! There are no pre-requisites for this course and it is available to 9th-12th graders.
Students should see their social studies teacher to register or put it on their elective registration form.
