Congrats to ESOL
teacher Patricia Heys, a National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Scholar! Chosen from a national applicant pool, Pat participated in a workshop titled "Crossroads of Conflict: Contested Vision of Freedom and the Missouri-Kansas Border Wars." The one-week program was held at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Participants visited several historic sites including the Burnt Over District of Bates County, Missouri; the Steamboat Arabia Museum; the cities of Lawrence and Lecompton, Kansas; sites associated with the Battle of Westport; and the Jesse James Farm. They studied with nationally-recognized scholars on the Civil War in Missouri and Kansas.
