Dear North Springs Charter High School Parents and Community:

I am honored to introduce myself as your newly appointed principal of North Springs Charter High School. North Springs has a rich history and tradition, and I look forward to getting on board to begin our quest to continue and enrich that proud history.  I know there are many things that everyone would like to know about me, my experience, my vision for North Springs in the future, and I am eager to share this with the community.  We will have many opportunities over the next several months to have informal, small group meetings so I can get to know you and the community, and how your input will shape the future of North Springs.

A  little about me.  Family is incredibly important to me, and you will get to know my family, as we expect to be fully immersed in the Sandy Springs community.  I am blessed to be married to my wife of 17 years, a gifted language arts teacher who will be joining the teaching ranks in Fulton County next year. We have two wonderful children, Alex and Katherine, who are excited about the opportunities next year, and who you will see on the sidelines and theater seats of North Springs, cheering for our students.

Professionally, I have been an educator for 19 years, first as a high school IB teacher at the high school I graduated from, then as an assistant principal responsible for magnet programs at several high schools, and lastly, in my current role as principal of Conway Middle School, a high performing school in a community similar to Sandy Springs.  All of these experiences have enriched my life and validated my beliefs about how children learn what makes schools great.

Great schools are a product of the staff, students, and the community, working together for the success of our students.  For us as a school, success will be measured when EVERY student walks across the stage at graduation and is college and career ready.  This is a lofty goal, but is one that we should be talking about every single day.  When all three of these stakeholder groups are working together toward this commmon goal, the sky is the limit to how much students can achieve.  I am proud of how my current school has rallied around this simple principle, and the results we have achieved with this focus.  As your principal, this will be my guiding focus for the upcoming years, to ensure that all stakeholders are put in a position to help our students achieve success.  This is servant leadership, and something you can expect from your administrative team at North Springs.

As the school year draws to a close, I am excited about being your next principal of North Springs and I look forward to meeeing the staff and community as I visit the school over the next two months.  I am also looking forward to listening to your input on how to continue to build on the successes of North Springs.  As community and staff meetings are scheduled, we will make sure we advertise these in multiple ways, to ensure that we have these meaningful conversations about the future of North Springs with all stakeholders.

Your proud Spartan Principal,

Michael Scott Hanson

Also a huge thank you to former Spartan Langston Michael, who just finished his freshman year at Wake Forest, and rising seniors Justice Michael and Xavier Jones for providing cool jazz for the reception. A few days later they performed at the 2016 Atlanta Jazz Festival for an 80 minute set!
