Visual and Performing Arts Overview
The Showcase of Performing and Visual Arts (SPAVA)
SPAVA is held twice each year. Students from all Fine Art disciplines transform the lobby into a gallery of displays, performances and presentations. The event, which began in 2001, recognizes Riverwood's artistically gifted and talented students. Student actors, singers, and instrumentalists perform throughout the evening as well. SPAVA is free and open to the community. 2016-2017 SPAVA dates are Thursday, November 10, 2016 and Thursday, April 13, 2017; the events begin at 7pm.
Student productions traditionally include a fall play and a spring musical. Students working toward an IB Diploma or Certificate also present smaller pieces throughout the year.
In addition to fall, winter, and spring concerts, the various choral groups perform in the community and participate in GMEA competitions.
Band and Orchestra
Students may choose from several band and orchestra options: from beginning to advanced, as well as Marching Band, Percussion, and Jazz.
The comprehensive visual arts program furnishes many opportunities for students to pursue a career in the arts. It provides a solid foundation of creativity, problem solving, and confidence building that can only be found in the arts. Raiders have been recognized locally, at the state level, and nationally in various visual art arenas.
