Choral Groups Earn High Marks at Large Group Performance Evaluation
Congratulations to the Raider Choral groups for their outstanding performances at the Spring 2019 Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE). The Advanced Men’s Chorus, the Intermediate Women’s Chorus, and the Riverwood Singers, totaling more than 70 students, traveled to John's Creek United Methodist Church on Thursday, February 21, 2019 for their biggest and most important performance of the year. Each group sang extremely well. ALL groups received superiors from all three judges. For Sight-reading, the Advanced Men's and Intermediate Women's groups received a superior (1). Even though the Riverwood Singers were sight-reading at a harder class level, they received an excellent (2) for their work.
October 2018: Raiders Welcome New Choral Director
The Raiders are pleased to introduce Laura Leigh Beall, conductor, soprano, and music educator, as the new Choral Director effective the end of October 2018.
Beall was the Choral Director at Frank N. Osborne Middle School in Gwinnett County from 2015-2018. She led seven choral ensembles and presented four concerts annually. Under her direction, the Osborne choruses consistently earned superior ratings in performance and sight-reading at Large Group Performance Evaluations. Additionally, Beall is currently enjoying her fourth season singing Soprano 1 with the Atlanta Master Chorale.
Beall holds a Master of Music degree in Conducting from the University of Georgia, where she studied with Daniel Jacob Bara and J.D. Burnett. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Reinhardt University, where she studied conducting with Martha Shaw. When not singing, conducting, or teaching, Beall can be found jogging, cooking, drinking large amounts of coffee, and playing with every puppy she meets.
The Choral program consists of four curricular choirs: one mastery level choir, two advanced level choirs, and one intermediate level choir:
Intermediate Women’s Chorus
Advanced Women’s Chorus
Advanced Men’s Chorus
All choirs consistently receive Superiors in both sight reading and performance at the annual District 5 GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation. Choirs perform at four annual concerts, as well as at community events. Students new to the choral program must purchase choir uniforms. Financial aid is available, if needed.
