DrShaw.jpg​Bio:  A native of Windsor, Conn., Robert Shaw has lived in Georgia since he was 17. After high school he served in the U.S. Army as a Multi-Channel Communications Soldier for four years. He served two of those years in West Germany, and participated in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. Following an honorable discharge, Shaw completed a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, Social Studies at Kennesaw State University while working his way up into management at UPS.

With his bachelor's, Shaw taught social studies at Avondale High School in DeKalb County and Campbell and Pope high schools in Cobb County, while earning a Master's in Education, Educational Leadership at Kennesaw State University. After obtaining this degree, Shaw moved into administrative roles, first as an assistant principal at Pope High School, and then principal at Hillgrove High School in Cobb County and Riverwood International Charter School in Fulton County.

In 2011, Shaw obtained his Doctor of Education degree, School Improvement from the University of West Georgia. His dissertation is titled, "Georgia Public High School Principals' Understanding of FERPA." Since 2013, Shaw has been a part-time instructor at Kennesaw State University.

Shaw became principal at Roswell High School in 2017.

He has received numerous awards in his career in education, including most recently Fulton County Schools Principal of the Year for the Central Learning Community in 2016.

Shaw lives in Cobb County. He enjoys spending time with his wife Shannon and their three daughters.

Name: Mr. Jim Coyle

Bio: Mr. Coyle began his educational career as a student teacher in January of 1997 at Roswell High School. In August 1997, he began as a teacher in the Special Education Department. For the next 5 years, he was assigned to both self contained and team taught classes in History, his area of specialty. In August 2002, Mr. Coyle transferred from the Special Education to the Social Studies Department, where he taught both World History and Advanced Placement World History classes. In July 2007, Mr. Coyle was promoted to the position of Assistant Principal. He has spent his entire educational career serving the Roswell community. In addition to teaching a variety of classes, he also coached the Junior Varsity Softball Team and was the sponsor of several student activities. Mr. Coyle received his Bachelor's degree in Special Education from Troy State University in 1993, his Master's degree in Interrelated Special Education from the North Georgia College and State University in 1999, and his Educational Specialist's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2001.

Name: Ms. Segena Ponder

Bio: Ms. Ponder is a native Atlantan. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and completed the teaching certification program at Spelman College here in Atlanta in 1993. She was hired by the Marietta City Schools system as a math teacher at Marietta High School where she taught for several years before moving out of state. During her time away, she enjoyed the opportunity to teach high school math in Maryland and California. She returned to Georgia and her position at Marietta High in 2001, where she remained until joining Fulton County Schools in 2005 at Sandtown Middle School. She taught TAG Math and served as Math Department Contact at Sandtown where she was also recognized as Teacher of the Year. She holds a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University.

Name: Mr. Sal Zarzana

SalZarzana.jpgBio: An educator for twenty-two years, Mr. Sylvester Zarzana, “Sal,” begins his tenth year as an assistant principal, four of which he spent at Roswell High School. 

After graduating from Hofstra University with an MBA in marketing, Mr. Zarzana accepted an opportunity to teach English Language Arts and coach basketball, tennis, and soccer at LaSalle High School in Coconut Grove, Florida, during which time he earned a MSE in English Education.  After three years at Lasalle, he spent two years teaching and coaching in the Florida Keys at Marathon High School, and then moved up the state for three years to teach and coach Coral Springs High School, where he earned his National Board of Professional Standards certification as Early Adolescent Academic Generalist.  In 2000, Mr. Zarzana moved to Roswell, where he taught English at Centennial High School up until 2003 when he accepted his first assistant principal position at Roswell High School.

Mr. Zarzana left Roswell High School in 2006 to work as curriculum assistant principal of feeder school Elkins Pointe Middle.  He worked there until 2011, helping to establish a standards-based, direct instruction approach in which teachers participated in content-based collaboration and used data from common assessments to inform their instruction.  In 2011, Elkins Pointe Middle School was the only middle school in Fulton County to receive the Platinum Award distinction for greatest gains in student achievement.

Name: Mrs. Celeste Patterson Moore

Occupation:  Assistant Principal

Bio: Mrs. Moore has been an educator for 16 years. She grew up in Conyers, GA and graduated from Heritage High School. While attending The University of Georgia, she earned her Bachelors of Science in Education in 1994. She was hired by the Archdioceses of Atlanta to teach art at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School in 1996. In 1998, she started teaching in Clayton County at Riverdale Middle School where she taught Art and coached the swim team. In 2005 she moved to Arizona with her family where she taught Art and Social studies at Walker Butte K-8 School for the Florence Unified School District.  Mrs. Moore earned her Master of Education at Arizona State University in 2007. She was hired as an Assistant Principal in the same district where she helped open two schools, Circle Cross K-8 School in 2007 and Poston Butte High School in 2009. In 2012 Mrs. Moore is very happy to be back home in Georgia and to be a hornet at Roswell High School.
