PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Dear Westlake Families:
As we prepare for final exam week and our graduation ceremony, I encourage every family to read this newsletter in its entirety. The “upcoming events” section contains something for everyone…from locker clean-out to final exams to graduation. Please don’t miss out…it is important to me that you stay a half step ahead of your child.
Thanks for all you have done and continue to do. In these final few days, the kids and I need you!
Sincerely,

AMC Dual Enrollment
Westlake high school is currently accepting applications for the Atlanta Metropolitan College (AMC) Dual Enrollment Program. The program will provide an opportunity for qualified juniors and seniors who have met the required academic standards to take college courses with AMC (a unit of the University System of Georgia) and receive both high school and college credit.
The program is an excellent alternative for high school juniors and seniors who want to start taking college level courses now. A major advantage of this program is that all courses taken through Dual Enrollment will be taught at Westlake High School. The deadline for applications has been extended. All applications should be submitted to Ms. Ogle by May 16, 2012.
SUCCESS STORIES
Congratulations to Auston Kennedy and Mecca Muhammad
The Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) sponsored by the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (Atlanta Chapter and Emory University Goizueta Business School) selected Auston Kennedy and Mecca Muhammad as participants in the summer program. This one-week summer residency program is designed to expose ethnic minority high school students to careers in accounting and finance and develop long-lasting relationships through mentoring and professional development. This program includes classes on preparing for college, tours of colleges and universities in the Atlanta area, tours of corporate companies that also sponsor our program and a business case study competition. Based on Auston and Mecca’s exemplary academic achievements, community involvement and successful completion of an interview, they have demonstrated characteristics of future leaders in their chosen career path. Please join us in congratulating Auston and Mecca on their acceptance into ACAP and taking one more step toward the achievement of future goals.
