Trey Martin, Principal

I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as your principal.  I have worked for Fulton County Schools for over 20 years, including eleven in the Johns Creek Community as principal of State Bridge Crossing Elementary.  I have also served as an assistant principal, a teacher, and as a school assistant in Fulton County Schools. Moreover, I am a product of our school system having attended Woodland ES, Sandy Springs MS, and North Springs HS as a student. I am a graduate of Southern Methodist University, Mercer University, and Lincoln Memorial University. I also received my Leadership Endorsement from the University of Georgia. I was a part of the 2007 Leadership North Fulton Class and was also a member of the 2011 Leadership Johns Creek Team.

My lovely wife is Christine, a former gifted education teacher at Mountain Park ES and a current paraprofessional. My daughter, Madison, is a rising 12th grader and a competitive dance star. My son, John, is about to start 9th grade and enjoys playing football, basketball and lacrosse. I love my family and my job. I cannot imagine doing anything else.

My goal is to do "whatever it takes" to help students succeed. I have been reviewing the school strategic plan, and I am excited about moving forward with these innovative initiatives. I can rest easily at the end of each day knowing that my decisions are based on what I believe is best for kids. I feel very fortunate to be joining a superior staff and a very supportive community. Together, we can make a difference!

Anita Erickson, 8th Grade Assistant Principal

My name is Anita Erickson and I am honored to be the 8th grade Assistant Principal at Autrey Mill Middle this year.  I have three wonderful children, two who attended UGA (Go DAWGS!) and have transitioned into the work force and one who is a senior at Chattahoochee High School.  My career began with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Muskingum College in Ohio.  I later earned a Masters of Arts degree in learning disabilities from the University of South Florida and an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.  I taught special education students with varying exceptionalities in kindergarten through eighth grade for eleven years in Ohio, Florida, and Georgia. I then worked in Fulton County schools as an Instructional Support Teacher (IST) where I oversaw and coordinated the special education programs.  I have served as an elementary assistant principal in Fulton County for the past eleven years in which I served on the School Governance Council, led Professional Learning Communities, and headed Project-based learning.  I am excited to lead the students and staff at Autrey Mill!

Mimi Gamel, 7th Grade Assistant Principal

Mimi began teaching in Fulton County, Georgia in 1999. After ten years in the New York Public School System (Edison Elementary School and Port Chester Middle School), she started her position as a Special Education Teacher at Crabapple Middle School in Roswell, Georgia. In 2007 she was granted the position of Graduation Coach before becoming the Assistant Principal at Autrey Mill Middle School in Johns Creek, Georgia. Mimi's mission is to empower all students, teachers, and parents to live their ultimate life by finding their unique purpose and passion within. She is a graduate from Kennesaw State University where she received her Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership in 2012, as well as her Doctoral Degree in December 2014. She was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and her transfer to the continental USA made her a global learner, rich in diversity. She is married to Brian and together with their five children and seven grandchildren enjoys playing tennis, dancing Zumba, and working on arts and crafts with her grandchildren.

Laurie Chans, 6th Grade Assistant Principal

Laurie Chans is an alumnae of the Fulton County School system. She grew up in Sandy Springs attending Spalding Drive Elementary and North Springs High School. She graduated from Florida State University in 1992. She began her teaching career opening New Prospect Elementary as a third grade teacher and then moved to Shakerag Elementary as a fourth grade teacher. While working as a teacher at Shakerag, she obtained a full scholarship through Fulton County Schools and earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at Georgia State University. Quickly, you will see that Laurie is a true servant leader who finds joy in empowering others and in building healthy relationships with those around her. During her tenure as an assistant principal at Shakerag, she was a driving force behind developing the leadership capacity in all students as well as the staff of her school family. In addition, she became a certified trainer in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and coordinated all of the school's Leadership Day events. Her belief that all students have leadership potential and must take ownership of their lives and learning thrives at Shakerag.  While Laurie has enjoyed her role as an elementary assistant principal, she is now very excited her journey in educational leadership has led her to Autrey Mill. She is married to Doug Chans. Together, they share five children. She enjoys writing, travelling, watching sports, especially FSU football, distance running and spending quality time with her family and friends. She's very much looking forward to becoming a member of the AMMS family and starting a new adventure.
