Dear Crabapple Middle School staff, parents, and community,
Greetings! I am Dr. Rako Morrissey, your new principal at Crabapple Middle School. I am thrilled to begin the new school year at Crabapple, and look forward to meeting students, staff, parents, and community members and working together. I am humbled to be the new leader of a school with a rich reputation for excellence.
My teaching career began in December 1997 when I taught 7th grade in Henry County for 2.5 years. I then taught both 4th grade for a year and 7th grade in Marietta City Schools for 5 years. From there, I moved to Cobb County where I was an instructional lead teacher for 2 years and then an administrator at the middle school level for 3 years. I received both my bachelor's and master's degrees from Kennesaw State University. I earned my specialist degree in mathematics education from West Georgia. I finished my personal educational career at Kennesaw State University in 2010 when I earned my doctorate in Teaching and Learning with a major in mathematics. I am married to a wonderful husband, Jay, and I have three children: Mia, who is 13 and is entering 8th grade; Jack, who is 7 and is entering 2nd grade; and Liam, who is 5 and is entering kindergarten.
As I make the transition to Crabapple, I am aware of the anticipation, hesitation and eagerness that can accompany new leadership. It is my goal to spend my first months learning about our school and all of its stakeholders. I eagerly anticipate getting to know the Crabapple Middle community, and learning about your vision for our school. I want to learn about what is important, what is working right and what we need to work on. To accomplish this, I will need your help and feedback in painting Crabapple's picture.
It is a tremendous task to follow in the footsteps of a great leader as Dr. Buhl. I hope to continue the standard of excellence that he has established at Crabapple while moving forward. I look forward to our journey together to ensure that our students have a rich and engaging environment in which to learn.
I will be messaging several dates in the near future where I would like to meet as many of you as I can. I hope that you will be able to join me for any of the dates. If not, I will be at Crabapple starting on July 1…stop by so we can meet! I look forward to working with all of you!
