Candidate Statements for SGC Election
I truly care about the future direction of EPMS, and I want to support our school community and leaders by being on the SGC. This position will allow me to put my leadership skills, energy, and dedication to work. I have four daughters ages 20, 18, 16, and 12. My older daughters graduated from Elkins so I have been a part of this school community for a long time. I have a vested interest in the success of the students here as I know what it takes to be successful in high school and college. I have been a stay-at-home mom for 20 years, and I have held many leadership positions. I served on the PTO at Sweet Apple as the chairperson for the fundraising campaign, and then later as the Vice President of Fundraising and Membership. I was a room parent, in charge of Fifth Grade Finale Week events, served on the Employee of the Year Committee, was on the Local School Advisory Committee, and chaired Grandparents' Day for 3 years. At Elkins, I served as Secretary on the PTSA, have chaired the 8th Grade Dance Committee, helped plan the 6th Grade Dance, served on the Teacher of the Year Committee, helped at International Night and with Honor Roll Breakfasts. I have been a huge supporter and proponent of Elkins Pointe and will continue to be. I believe that my experience at Elkins and Roswell and Milton High Schools make me well suited to provide input to the SGC and help develop strategic plans that continue to put the success and the needs of each of our students above all else.
Amy Little - Parent
My name is Amy and I am the mother of two beautiful daughters. I am running for a School Governance Council because I believe it’s important for parents to be involved. I understand that schedules do not allow everyone time to volunteer, and therefore would love to be the voice for all parents/guardians. I will take the position with open eyes and ears and lead with everyone’s best interest. I also welcome any new ideas you might have to make the school a better place. I have been volunteering in the school since my oldest daughter was in kindergarten, and have loved every minute. My background includes working all over the United States with people from all over the world from many different backgrounds. As the parent liaison, I will strive to help provide a wonderful environment for our children and help set them up for success. Please vote for me for the School Governance Council.
David Paperno - Teacher
As a teacher at Elkins Pointe, I have also been able to bring in a new perspective in order to best meet the needs of the school. I have been able to do this at the school by interacting with both students, teachers, parents, and those in the community that do not currently attend the school. This along with having previously served on the school governance council and having worked on the current strategic plan for Elkins Pointe has made me want to continue my involvement in activities happening outside of my own classroom. Over the last two years, my experiences have allowed me to not only want to better understand what is needed in order to help drive the school toward excellence. Though I have served on the council previously for one year, I have been able to demonstrate leadership for the school through acting as the chair of the council while leading the school council through the strategic planning process and would like to continue my involvement in planning for Elkins Pointe.
Monique Erskine - Teacher
I have been an educator for 13 years. I have experience with all sub-groups of students including special education, ESOL and Gifted. I am certified in mathematics grades 4-12 with a Masters in Secondary Education and Ed.S in Instructional Technology. I pride myself on being able to steer my students in the direction of being better mathematicians. However, I am looking for avenues where I can make a greater impact on all students and not just the ones I teach. I believe SGC is a great opportunity for that. Having taught in three school districts, I have experienced what makes a school great. I think I would have a lot to add to aid in making Elkins even better. I believe in the vision of the school where students are happy, smart, connected but do believe that does not look the same for every student, as their needs are different. I would like to work with the team to ensure that sub-groups and individual students receive what they need every day that they walk into the doors of Elkins Pointe.
Amire Billups - Teacher
I have been a Math Teacher for 13 years. I have a Bachelors in Mathematics and a Master’s of Education in Educational Management. During my years of teaching my students had a 90% pass rate during the CRCT and shown high growth within Milestones. My accomplishments include being Teacher of the Year Finalist for Holcomb Bridge Middle School in 2009, 2012 and 2014. I wish to serve on the School Governance Council to provide support for students to build character, integrity, excellence, and help students achieve their goals to become successful leaders who take pride in themselves and their education.
Elkins Pointe RFF Renewal Application for 2018-2019
Request for Flexibility Waiver
To further develop students' critical thinking skills and academic achievement, the Council requested a waiver to increase the amount of time to provide remedial interventions, extensions, and enrichment for all students. This concept of this RFF is called Flexible Seat Time for Personalized Learning.
Although the SGC does not plan on using it this RFF until the 2019-2020 school year, the council is renewing this for the period of 2020-2022. Once approved, the RFF may be implemented as part of it the school schedule in the future. We are asking for feedback for the Elkins Pointe MS RFF Proposal. Thank you.
