Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards and state academic assessments.

The Title I program focuses on the academic needs of the most disadvantaged students.

What is the aim of Title I in Fulton County Schools?
Title I schools receive federal money to provide additional resources to:
  • Support student instruction
  • Improve teaching strategies
  • Increase family engagement

Office 365 Clinic - Parent University - 1/12
Did you know that your child can work on an assignment anywhere in the world and on any computer in the world? Come learn how to use the Cloud/Office 365 on Friday, January 11th at a Parent University Digital Day Clinic.

This workshop will feature our onsite Office 365 Tech Specialist Trent Stapleton. Parents should bring their child to this workshop with them because Trent Stapleton will teach your child how to store files in the cloud, share a file with their teacher and answer questions about OneNote, Outlook and more. The workshop will also address File Sharing and Copyright/Piracy.

This workshop will take place in the Media Center from 8:00 am to 9:00 am, and during all three-grade level lunches: (NOTE: STUDENTS SHOULD BRING LAPTOPS)
  • 8:00 to 9:00 AM - Parent & student Learn Before School
  • 12:06 to 12:31 PM - Parent & 8th-grade Lunch & Learn
  • 12:59 to 1:24 PM - Parent & 6th-grade Lunch & Learn 
  • 1:52 to 2:17 PM - Parent & 7th-grade Lunch & Learn

Students may not attend without a parent because this is Parent University. During lunch and learn, students should bring their laptop and lunch to the Media Center and sit at the table with their parent. Parents are welcome to bring their lunch also. Parents may attend without their student, but it is recommended to for the student to attend too. Unaccompanied parents may drop into any session or come by between 9 am - 12:00 pm to ask specific questions about Office 365, OneNote, OneDrive, Outlook, etc.

Transition to High School Parent Meeting - 1/16

The parent meetings at Elkins Pointe will be in English and Spanish on January 16th as follows.

  • 8:00 am presented English by Title I Parent Liaison Lisa O'Hanlon Cowles in English - Introduction to High School Transition in the Media Center
  • 6:00 pm in Spanish presented by Bi-Lingual Parent Liaison Koritza Rodriquez in Spanish - Latino Family Night for Rising 9th Grade Parents in the Café

This is a Parent University Workshop to help parents "Prepare for the Rigors High School." The meeting will be recorded as a PowerPoint webinar and posted on the Elkins Pointe website on the "Parent Resource Center" tab. Note: Additional High School Transition Dates & Meetings will be announced in January 2018 and a Parent Resource Open House will be held on January 31st. All parents are invited.

This presentation will be put on by a team at Elkins Pointe Middle School, headed by Mariah Danzler from Summit Hill Counseling who will give you practical ways to build your relationship using communication with your children. "Hard Stuff" topics:

Question? How Do I get in the Building that early?  Answer: Come to the side of the building to the 7th-grade door. Park in the employee parking lot and we will let you into the door right next to Mrs. Okiyama's room, D-110.

What? Mrs. Okiyama will be giving parents a presentation on how to help your child be successful in ELA. Here are the topics that will be covered:

  2. Close Reading of a reading selection
  3. Samples of narrative revising (4 point questions for milestones)

Parent University Workshops
Parent University Workshops are offered throughout the year and at varied times of day (mornings, lunchtime, & evenings) and as in-person classes or webinars (i.e. Facebook Live) to help parents learn ways to help their child at home. Facebook LIVE from EPMS! ♥️ Titan Binder Check Prep

  • Date: Friday, Sept. 1st
  • Time: @ 1 pm on the Facebook Page of Elkins Pointe Parent Liaison(https://www.facebook.com/elkinspointe.parentliaison)
  • Place: Online. Tune in on Facebook @ 1 pm to watch the LIVE broadcast or watch anytime after with or without your child. if you don't have social media the video will be posted to the Elkins Pointe website before/or on Saturday, Sept. 1st. This way you can watch it over the weekend and before Monday's Binder Check!
  • Who?   All Parents & Families
  • What? Our 8th-grade AVID students will walk us through a binder check. For those parents new to the Titan Binder system of organization, this is a MUST WATCH for you and your child.
  • Targets: Organizational skills to improve the academic areas of ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Connections, World Languages and Reading.
  • Wow! Binder checks are conducted every Monday in WINN time, so watching this Parent University video and using the weekend to help your child get organized, hole-punched, and in good shape for their binder check is going to be awesome!!


8th Grade Parent Meeting to Prepare for Transition to High School

  • Date: Thursday, August 31st
  • Time: @ 7:40 am and at 4:30 pm 
  • Place: in the Media Center
  • Who will be presenting?  Ms. Norma Toner and Dr. Bearden
  • What? Mrs. Norma Toner begins the meeting with the details of the 8th Grade GA Trip and how it ties into the 8th grade Social Studies Curriculum (20 mins).  The second portion of the meeting will discuss the timeline parents should expect for Transition activities.  Dr. Bearden will give an overview of what to expect in the 8th-grade year and how best to prepare your child and yourself for a smooth transition. 
  • Targets: 8th-grade parents 
  • Info: Follow up meetings will be held in early 2018 to give parents a better understanding of the verification process.  Counselors from Milton High School and Roswell High School will be invited to help steer parents through the process.

  • Date: Thursday, August 31st
  • Time: @ 8:30 am...Don't Be Late‼️ You can come early at 8:15 am, but we are starting at 8:30 am sharp.
  • Place: in Room A-151 in the AVID Classroom (adjacent to the Connections hallway and next to Mrs. Lindesay's room)
  • Who?  All Parents
  • What? Using "Riddles," parents will learn in a hands-on way to teach their child to study for a test or quiz. We need you to be on time because this is a hands-on lesson and it is going to be FUN!
  • Targets: Study skills to improve the academic areas of ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Connections, World Languages and Reading.
  • WOW! This is one of the most important SKILLS you can reinforce with your child at home. It will serve them well in middle school, high school and into college!

Please Note: For the in-person "Riddle Tutorial" seminar, it was great to have 20 people. In order to break down into Tutorial groups, we needed at least a half of a classroom of parents to join us in the learning!

What is Title I?
Elkins Pointe Middle School participates in the Title I, Part A, Section 1116 of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) school-wide program. ​Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards and state academic assessments. Our School-wide Title I program focuses on the academic needs of all students, and the most disadvantaged students.

Elkins Pointe Middle School is a Title I School.  As a Title, I School, EPMS has a Parent Resource Center located in the Media Center.  We hold monthly Parent University Workshops, and have a Title I Parent Liaison.  If you would like more information about Title I, our Parent Resource Center, Parent University Workshops or volunteering at the school, please contact our Title I Parent Liaison:
