Mrs. Lauren Malekebu was born and raised in New York. She graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) Cortland with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a concentration in Psychology. Upon completion of her schooling in New York, she relocated to Orlando, FL to teach for Orange County Public Schools (OCPS). During her tenure in OCPS, she taught in grades K-8, provided service as a Curriculum Resource Teacher/Instructional Coach, and an assistant principal. In addition to these roles, Mrs. Malekebu coached basketball, delivered district-level professional development, and recruited teachers at the national level. In Orlando, Mrs. Malekebu attended the University of Central Florida, where she completed her Master's degree in Education in Educational Leadership (2003) and began the pursuit of her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership. In 2010, Mrs. Malekebu took an opportunity to lead the Response to Instruction (RtI), aka Response to Intervention, initiative for Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina. In the summer of 2011, Mrs. Malekebu accepted the principal position at Haynes Bridge Middle School, in Fulton County Schools. This opportunity allowed Mrs. Malekebu to provide service, back at the school level, to ensure that all students are provided with the opportunity to learn.
