The purpose of the School Governance Council is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. The School Governance Council is a governing body that is representative of the community and the school, but operates under the control and management of the Board of Education. The Council is responsible for making decisions regarding the strategic direction of the school including:
a.) Approve the school strategic plan and updates
b.) Approve the annual budget and annual resource allocations
c.) Interface with the school's Title I Committee
d.) Manage the Request for Flexibility process
e.) Participate in hiring the principal (in the case of a vacancy)
f.) Provide annual feedback on principal performance.
Request for Flexibility: Comments Needed!
The NMS School Governance Council is seeking your feedback on a proposed Request for Flexibility ("RFF") that would go into effect for the 2018-2019 school year. The RFF is for two additional full release days (one each semester) devoted to conducting parent teacher conferences. The RFF and Strategic Plan Overview may be viewed here:
The 30-day Public Comment period runs February 26, 2018 – March 27, 2018. There are various ways through which you may provide comment:
- Provide written commentary via the "Public Comment Box" in the school's front office. The RFF and Strategic Plan are available for review, along with comment cards.
- Email any comments to SGC Outreach and Communications Committee Chair Lauren Hansford at Hansford@fultonschools.org. Comments received via email will be added to those in the Public Comment Box.
- Attend the Governance Council's Public Comment meeting on March 27th at 4:30 p.m. in Room 711. The RFF and Strategic Plan will be available for review. The meeting parameters do not allow for dialogue between commenters and the Council, but all comments will be taken into consideration and discussed by the SGC.
