 Beginning Monday, Dec 5th, Scholastic Book Fairs will fill the Media Center with books, posters, and more. It's a great time to stock up on holiday gifts and books for winter reading. Parents are invited to browse at any time during the day between 8:15 am and 4:15 pm – regular book fair hours. Students will have the opportunity to visit and make purchases through their language arts classes. The book fair will close at 4:15 on Friday, December 9th.

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

Adult volunteers are needed Mon. Dec. 5 – 9th to help students locate and pay for books and to keep our Book Fair neat and organized. To show our appreciation, volunteers will receive a 10% discount on purchases. For every 2 hour shift worked, volunteers will be entered into a drawing for a $25 credit to spend at the Book Fair. Please sign up for more than one shift.

Weekly Surface Tip

 

Students remember that you and your parents signed the Fulton County Schools Device User Agreement before receiving your Surface tablet. By signing, student agreed to use the device for school purposes only and in a responsible manner. There is an increase in the number of students who are downloading games, installing items to get to blocked websites, etc. If devices are not being used appropriately and in a responsible manner, an office referral may be given to the student and student's device taken away for a period of time.

Jr. Beta State Convention

The Jr. Beta State Convention was held in Macon, Georgia on November 17th and 18th. Thirty-five members of the RTMS Jr. Beta Club joined thousands of club members from around the state to participate in a variety of artistic, academic and talent competitions. The following Betas placed at the State level and most qualified to attend the National Convention.

 Pride for Parents Toy Drive

River Trail Middle School is participating in the Pride for Parents Toy Drive. This toy drive will be a competition between Wolf Packs. The dates during which you can bring in toys are November 28 to December 16. The Wolf Pack that brings the most toys in will be rewarded with donuts and other prizes. If you have new or very lightly used toys to bring in, bring them to the Media Center before classes. Read the posters around the school for more info!

Common Sense Media 

For the last couple of weeks during Wolfpack, students have been learning about digital citizenship via Common Sense Media.  Each grade level particiapted in five activities that took students through a series of topics including social media, cyberbullying, digital footprint, and internet safety.  Detailed information is available at

8th Grade Savannah Trip March 23-24, 2017

All 8th grade students received a letter in their GA Studies class this week that provides details about the 8th Grade Savannah Field Trip scheduled for March 23-24, 2017. Students should return the one page Intent Form/Parental Permission & Medical Consent Form to the GA Studies teacher by Thursday, September 1, 2016. Registration and payments should be completed via Class Act Educational Tours.

Volunteer Requirements

To keep in compliance with State Law and best practices, for the 2016-2017 school year, we will require that all persons interested in volunteering in the Fulton County School District to re-register/register (even if a person has completed an application in the past) by completing the new online volunteer registration/application process. The registration process can be found on the FCS District Website under Community/Partners & Volunteers. Applicants should be prepared to spend about 10-15 minutes for the training and application process. In accordance with State Law, all volunteers must be current with the Child Abuse Reporting Protocol Training before being allowed to volunteer in our schools. It is very important that volunteers enter their full legal name as it appears on their government issued ID (please do not use nicknames or "goes by" names on the application). All applicants must wait 24 hours after applying for application processing and approval.

All volunteers (new and prior year) must register PRIOR to your first volunteer commitment at River Trail. This may take up to 48 hours to process.

Complete the mandatory online training.
                  Complete the volunteer application form and submit.
                         Wait for a confirmation email from Fulton County Schools. 
              To complete the process, bring your picture ID to front office to be scanned.

                                     Professional Development Days

September 2, 2016   *   November 7, 2016   *   February 21, 2017

The River Trail School Governance Council requested, and was approved for 3 professional learning days for the 2016-2017 school year. Students will not attend school on these days. River Trail teachers will participate in professional development courses that will increase classroom instruction strategies in the areas of personalized learning, project based learning, and critical thinking. These days only apply to RTMS, not students at other Fulton County Schools.
