At Hillside, we value Family Engagement and believe it is vital to student success. Parents are their child's first teacher and most importantly the teacher's partner in the education of their students. Parent Engagement is any activities that parents do to help their children succeed in school and life. It includes everything from making sure their child is are prepared to go to school every day, to attending parent meetings and conferences, to volunteering their time and talents in their child's classroom and at the school and finally to the importance and value of parents place on education.

How do students benefit?

When parents are engaged, students have better attendance, increased motivation, better self-esteem, fewer behavioral issues and ultimately higher grades and test scores. The long-term effect is a better chance of graduating from high school and going on to post-secondary education.

How do parents benefit?

When parents are engaged, they have more confidence in the school and its teacher, along with more confidence in their own abilities to help their children outside of the school day.

How do schools benefit?

When parents invest in their school, the teachers and staff feel more supported. In addition, the school has a better reputation in the community, which increases the interest and involvement of all community stakeholders.

How can I get involved?

There are many volunteer opportunities including media helper, tutoring, copying, lots of PTA programs such as All-Pro Dads, Career Day, Science Day, Artist Day​​ and much more. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our Hillside PTA website or contact your homeroom teacher.






What are the procedures when visiting Hillside?

The school district has adopted procedures to ensure the safety of all students when visitors or volunteers are on campus. Sometimes these processes can seem cumbersome, but we appreciate your patience in helping us maintain our number one focus-- the safety of our children!

A visitor is defined as a person, who acts only in the capacity of a parent (having lunch with your child, attending a class wide performance, etc.). Visitors will be asked to present their government issued ID upon entering the school. This ID will be run through our state software the first time you present it; however, we may ask for it anytime you are on campus. After scanning your ID through the state's database and upon clearance, you will sign into our computer system and receive and wear a nametag. Please make sure the nametag is clearly visible at all times.

A volunteer is defined as a person, who performs a duty that a staff member could also perform (reading to your child's class, making copies, working in the media center, etc.). To become a volunteer, please complete the steps below:

How do I become a volunteer?

  1. Register at the Fulton School Community Volunteer/Visitor
  2. Complete the mandatory online training.
  3. Complete the volunteer application.
  4. Wait for a confirmation email from Fulton County Schools.

    Once your volunteer items​ are complete, each time you will be asked to sign in on our computer and wear a name tag for the duration you are on campus. Please make sure the nametag is clearly visible.
