Welcome to Lake Forest Elementary School!
My name is Taylor Barton, and I am proud to be the principal of Lake Forest Elementary School. Lake Forest Elementary School is a special place that has amazing students and teachers. We all work extremely hard every day to achieve our mission: We educate & empower each other to make a positive impact on the world.
We are currently in the candidacy phase of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. This approach to learning allows students to explore and make connections with the world, and focuses on making education a journey that teachers and students embark on together. We are excited about becoming an IB PYP school and the impact it will have on our students!
As a staff, we value Professional Learning Communities as an integral part of teaching. Every week, grade levels meet to talk about the four essential questions of a PLC:
· What do we expect our students to learn?
· How will we know they are learning?
· How will we respond when they don't learn?
· How will we respond if they already know it?
By asking these questions weekly, we have seen tremendous gains in student learning, and look forward to continued growth in the upcoming school year.
Lake Forest was founded in 2008 and is located in Sandy Springs, GA. Our enrollment has increased from 550 in 2008 to a current enrollment of 987. We have tremendous stakeholder support in the community, as we partner with businesses, churches, and community partners to foster student achievement. We also offer a multitude of after school activities, such as Girls on the Run, Extended Learning, Geography and STEM club.
Lake Forest was designated as a Title 1 Rewards School in 2013. Lake Forest is a CEP school, which entitles all students to receive free breakfast and lunch as part of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
One of the many strengths of our school is its connection with the community. We partner with many organizations within the Sandy Springs area to foster learning with our students and a link to our neighbors. If you are interested in helping out, please let us know! We'd love to have you!
