Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, data-driven framework proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school's sense of safety, and support improved academic outcomes. Thousands of U.S. schools are implementing PBIS and saving countless instructional hours otherwise lost to discipline. 

The premise of PBIS is that continual character education instruction, combined with acknowledgement or feedback of positive student behavior will reduce unnecessary discipline and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety, and learning. PBIS schools apply a multi-tiered approach to prevention, using disciplinary data and principles of behavior analysis to develop school-wide, targeted and individualized interventions and supports to improve school climate for all students.

These expectations will be posted and taught throughout our building.   We believe helping students practice good behavior, enables us to build a school community where ALL students CAN succeed and grow both academically and socially.   We will use the matrix to help teach and clarify these expectations.  Students who are caught exhibiting desired behaviors outlined in the behavior matrix of expectations will be rewarded with Dojo points!

What Can I Do at Home?

Parents are an important and integral part of the PBIS implementation.  We encourage parents to use the same expectations and rules that the school teaches.  The common language creates consistency and a unified support for expected student behavior. Together the home, school, and community share the responsibility for developing good citizens.  Parents, teachers, and students collaborate to maintain a safe, learning environment.  

  • Review and discuss the Manning Oaks Behavioral Matrix with your child
  • Check your child's Dojo account daily
  • Ask your child about his/her day
  • Ensure that your child is well rested and on time for each school day.
  • Encourage your child to do his/her homework and keep up with his/her classes. 
  • Stay in contact with your child's teacher(s)
  • Encourage your child to use appropriate and proper language and tone.
  • Practice caring and polite phrases, such as "Thank you", "Excuse me", "Please", and "I'm sorry."
  • Be a contributing member of your child's school.  Volunteer, attend PTA events or other school activities.

How can you be a partner in this effort?

We want you to be a partner in helping us make our school an even more positive place for our children to learn.  To ensure that you as parents and your child/children as students are aware of the school expectations; we ask that you review the matrix (on the back) in its entirety with your child/children.  Additional ways to be involved are: using the expectations in your home, reminding your child/children of expectations each day, make sure your child arrives on time to school, and inquiring about their day each afternoon.  Please feel free to contact Kristi Meyers, our guidance counselor, if you have any questions or concerns.  If you would like more information on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, please visit the following website:   http://www.pbis.org
